About Us

The Solid Waste Services department is dedicated to providing the citizens of Fort Smith with safe, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost-effective services. The department is made up of 90 employees comprised of administration, residential, commercial, fleet & grounds, landfill, industrial, and waste reduction divisions.  Combined we collect refuse, recyclables, and yardwaste from over 30,000 customers. Solid Waste Services is an enterprise fund being completely funded by fees charged for services. The annual budget is roughly $17 million.
